Christmas in July

Around May, when it starts getting cold in Australia, when autumn has finally settled in, a few cold winds begin to blow and there may be dustings of snow in the mountains, you tend to start thinking of warm jumpers, snuggling around a fireplace, hot roasted dinners, and things that people in the northern hemisphere usually associate with Christmas.

So in Australia, they started Christmas in July.

During July, lots of restaurants, hotels and motels have special Christmas dinners, with the traditional roast dinner, bonbons, Christmas decorations, and definitely fireplaces.

If you drive through the Blue Mountains in NSW during July, you will definitely see a lot of advertising for restaurant specials.

Christmas in July is also a big event in the Australian snowfields, with special dinners and festivities in Jindabyne, Thredbo, Perisher, Mt Selwyn, Falls Creek and other resorts.
